What does a new patio cost around Teesside?

Laid properly, a patio on Teesside in 2026 works out at £50 to £80 per square metre in concrete slabs, £80 to £120 in natural stone such as sandstone or limestone, and £100 to £150 in porcelain. Teesside gardens set the brief

Garden shapes here fall into a handful of familiar types. The postwar semis of Billingham, Thornaby and Acklam mostly have long, narrow rear gardens on clay, so the patio is a wide terrace across the back of the house with a path running down one side. • The sub-base: a stated depth of compacted MOT type 1, whacked in layers, not a single loose scattering.
• The bedding method: a full wet mortar bed for stone and concrete, a slurry primer coat for porcelain, never spot dabs.
• Falls and drainage: a fall of roughly one in eighty running away from the house, plus where the water is being sent.
• The damp-proof course: the finished surface kept at least 150mm below it, or a drainage channel where the levels refuse to allow that.
• Jointing: the product named, whether that is a brush-in resin compound or a hand-pointed mortar mix.
• Edges and make-good: haunched edge restraint, cut lines around drains and manholes, and the state the lawn is left in.
